Future Green’s masterplan for the Washington, DC campus of the nation’s premier institute of higher learning for the hearing-impaired creates a system of connective, mixed-use corridors and vibrant destinations, knitting the historically isolated campus into the fabric of its neighborhood. Mindfully interpreting DeafSpace Design Guidelines, such as maintaining clear sight lines with prominent wayfinding landmarks, we distilled our design into an adaptable and sustainable kit of parts to shape the project's open space.
Winner of a Potomac ASLA Honor Award for Analysis, Planning, and Urban Design, the plan for Gallaudet will continue to evolve through a robust community process. Engagement efforts include a series of interactive, graphically-clear playing cards that were shared with stakeholders during interactive planning sessions in order to engage users through a tactile and visual medium.
