Future Green Studio

Adelphi Street Residence

A garden roofscape was designed to accompany an artist studio addition to a Fort Green brownstone.

A wood deck with built-in planters features a range of intensive plantings including the evergreens mugo pine and dwarf blue spruce, the creeping vines Boston ivy and wisteria, and perennials such as coreopsis and salvia.

The studio addition underlies an extensive green roof, planted with dianthus, fescue, and various sedum varieties. Intermixed with the plantings is a stepping path - made of cross sections of a locally harvested black locust log - and a tree stump perch for taking in the view of the Manhattan skyline.
