The New Museum
This Pixelated Cloud Field installation for the New Museum Archive building proposes a green roof that would transform itself throughout the day as well as over the years.
Viewable from the 7th floor event terrace of the museum, the project is a visual tapestry that integrates mirror boxes into the green roofscape. The mirror boxes draw in the surrounding city, reflecting afternoon clouds, night stars, the towering buildings, and the green roof itself. The groundplane is activated through the compilation of those disparate elements into a running montage of objects.
A sustainable lighting strategy employs LED Light Cubes which act as sculptural objects that enliven the installation in the evening. The cubes come to life at night and illuminate the green roof for viewers on the New Museum Roof Terrace.
As the green roof grows in over time, the seasonal colors and textures of the plantings make for an ephemeral, dynamic landscape that encourages visitors to return.
