After receiving horticultural certification at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Jim maintained the landscape at the Prospect Park Zoo for the Wildlife Conservation Society for many years, involving the design of naturalistic animal habitats with emphasis on native ecosystems and sustainability. He has worked on the Manhattan public parks of Piet Oudolf at both the Battery and the High Line and teaches a landscape design program, among other courses, at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
