Design

Future Green designed the entry courtyard and gatehouse at 22 Bond in conjunction with a residential building renovation by BKSK Architects. The garden is constructed from existing steel beams and raw concrete walls left over from a previous construction project. New garden materials include weathered steel planters, screens, and edging, which complement the found condition of the existing deconstructed building. Stripped stepping stones weave through a mounded landscape of shade-tolerant plants. Geometric, weathered steel sculptures connect the northern and southern limestone patios, emerging from the planting to reinforce the garden’s remnant feel. An accessible green roof features sweetbay magnolia trees punctuating the southern end of the garden. From the street, the landscape appears veiled – emerging from behind a perforated steel screen.
